چکیده

In this paper, we consider a network design problem of stacking multiple bi-directional self-healing-rings (BSHRs) on a given physical conduit ring in order to meet given demand requirements. The objective is then to find a cost-minimizing solution which not only specifies how many and what kinds of BSHR rings to install, but also indicates how to split the demand requirements among the installed BSHRs. The problem has been formulated as an IP model and then reformulated to a set-partitioning model via the column generation approach. An iterative solution method of alternating between two phases of generating and fixing columns was developed and tested with three different demand patterns. Computational experience gained from a total of more than 100 test runs for each demand pattern strongly supports the real-world applicability of the proposed model and the solution method. q 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. A Single-Fiber Bi-directional Self-Healing WDM Metro-Ring Network with Bi-directional OADM

We propose and demonstrate a single-fiber bi-directional WDM self-healing ring network with simple bidirectional OADM. By employing our proposed alternate-path switching scheme, the bi-directional traffic can be restored promptly under single fiber failure. Introduction Bi-directional wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) self-healing ring (SHR) network [1-2] is an attractive and cost-effectiv...

Assessment of blocking performance in unidirectional and bi-directional wavelength routed ring networks

In this paper, we present a comparison of the blocking performance in unidirectional and bi-directional wavelength routed ring networks. This performance comparison reveals that, for the same load per node and equal number of wavelengths per link, the performance of a unidirectional ring with N nodes is very close to the performance of a bi-directional ring with 4N nodes. This comparison also s...

A class of self-healing ring architectures for SONET network applications

SONET technology has made high-speed self-healing ring (SHR) architectures practical and economical for use in intra-LATA telecommunication networks. This paper reviews a class of SONET SHR architectures and their control schemes. The SHR architectures can be divided into two basic classes: bi-directional SHRs (B-SHRs) and uni-directional SHRs (U-SHRs). Bidirectional SHRs using four fibers and ...

Data Redistribution Algorithms for Heterogeneous Processor Rings

We consider the problem of redistributing data on homogeneous and heterogeneous ring of processors. The problem arises in several applications, each time after that a load-balancing mechanism is invoked (but we do not discuss the load-balancing mechanism itself). We provide algorithms that aim at optimizing the data redistribution, both for uni-directional and bi-directional rings, and we give ...

Constacyclic Codes over Group Ring (Zq[v])/G

Recently, codes over some special finite rings especially chain rings have been studied. More recently, codes over finite non-chain rings have been also considered. Study on codes over such rings or rings in general is motivated by the existence of some special maps called Gray maps whose images give codes over fields. Quantum error-correcting (QEC) codes play a crucial role in protecting quantum ...
